What will the project look like once completed?

The project will be published as a feature on Engineering New Zealand’s website and will include

  • Written historical background covering
    • women’s early informal contributions to engineering in New Zealand
    • New Zealand’s first women engineering graduates
    • Advocacy programmes focused on growing the number of women in the profession
    • Support networks for women engineers
    • Women’s contribution to the profession
  • Biographies of early New Zealand women engineers
  • Audio recordings of interviews with women engineers

Who are you looking for?

Women from a range of career stages and engineering disciplines who would like to share stories about their:

  • experiences of study in New Zealand and entering the workforce
  • barriers or pathways to career advancement
  • involvement in Women in Engineering support groups in the 1980s, 1990s or 2000s
  • reasons for continuing in or leaving the engineering profession

What about photos?

We’d also love to hear from you if you have photos related to women in engineering, particularly from earlier decades. These could include photos from conference workshops or support group events or photos of women engineers at work.
