Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how we understand and protect the natural world. Join Dr Victor Anton, founder and General Manager of Wildlife.ai, for an exploration of how AI, sensor technologies and citizen science are being used to accelerate wildlife conservation across Aotearoa.

Wildlife.ai is a Taranaki-based charity developing innovative tools that help conservation teams monitor biodiversity faster and more effectively. In this session, Victor will share the organisation's journey from research and prototyping through to real-world deployment, including AI-powered marine reserve monitoring and the development of a camera trap designed to detect animals that conventional systems often miss.

The presentation will explore how technology, conservation science and community partnerships come together to deliver better outcomes for biodiversity, and why successful innovation requires consideration of ecological, cultural and social contexts alongside technical challenges.

This event is being jointly hosted by the Engineering New Zealand Wellington and Taranaki branches, with in-person venues in both regions as well as online attendance available. Following the presentation, stay for a Q&A session with members of the Wildlife.ai team and board, and connect with fellow engineers, technologists, conservation practitioners and community leaders over complimentary food and drinks. Whether you attend in Wellington, Taranaki or online, this is a unique opportunity to explore how emerging technologies are helping shape the future of conservation in Aotearoa.
