This year the Engineering New Zealand Foundation has awarded five undergraduate scholarships of $4000.

All the recipients are starting either an Engineering New Zealand-accredited three-year Bachelor of Engineering Technology or a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree.

They are: Campbell Russell (Wanaka), Connor Melton (Christchurch), Heidi Cummings (Sydney), Michael Sewell (Dunedin) and Susan Eatson (Taupo). Through their applications, the winners have demonstrated a passion for engineering and a commitment to applying their skills and knowledge as engineers to support their community.

The scholarships’ aim is to encourage school leavers into tertiary education in engineering and technology. Scholarships are awarded to the top five applicants, with a maximum of one award per Engineering New Zealand region.

Applications are considered by the Foundation’s board. Chair Tiina Hall-Turner says the Foundation was encouraged by the quality of applications received this year.

“This years’ winners remind us yet again of why people choose to do engineering and how they see engineering helping not only themselves but also their communities.”

She says the Foundation is dedicated to supporting the next generation of engineers, helping them to apply their knowledge and skills to engineer a better life for all New Zealanders. “By investing in the new generation of engineers, we’re protecting the future of the industry.”

The Foundation is a charitable trust that supports our members and future engineers, by offering financial assistance for our members as well as scholarships for engineering students at all stages of their career.
