This year, we have plenty to celebrate. We will be honouring St Barbara, the patron saint of tunnelling, while recognising the successful completion and opening of two monumental tunnelling projects in Tāmaki Makaurau - the City Rail Link (CRL) and the Central Interceptor.
It is a rare occasion to see two projects of this scale successfully delivered in Auckland, and we are delighted to welcome speakers from both projects to share their experiences, key learnings and successes in a relaxed and informal setting.
As always, the event is about more than tunnelling - it is about building connections, strengthening relationships, sharing knowledge and celebrating the achievements of our industry throughout 2026. We warmly welcome NZTS members, young professionals, students, clients, contractors, designers, tunnellers, engineers and anyone with an interest in underground construction to come along, connect with the wider tunnelling community and celebrate the year that has been.
We have a generous budget this year, so expect a great afternoon of networking, sunshine, food and drinks, with festivities continuing well into the evening!
For non-members, this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with the NZTS and join us for what promises to be an exciting 2027, with a number of upcoming tunnelling projects and technical events on the horizon.
We look forward to seeing you all at The Birdcage as we celebrate St Barbara, our industry and another great year of tunnelling in New Zealand!
The New Zealand Tunnelling Society invites members and the wider tunnelling community to celebrate St Barbara’s Day and the end of 2026. With the successful completion of both the City Rail Link and Central Interceptor, we’ll hear from project representatives sharing their experiences and key learnings, while enjoying an afternoon and evening of networking, food, drinks and celebration. Young professionals, students, clients, contractors, designers and non-members are all encouraged to join!
