This event will explore the story behind the City Rail Link, tracing its journey from the early vision and strategic objectives through to the evidence, modelling and analysis that informed key decisions along the way. It will provide an opportunity to look beyond the project itself and understand the thinking, challenges and collaborative efforts that helped shape its development and delivery.
Drawing on the firsthand experiences of Andrew Mein (Auckland Transport) and Ian Clark (FLOW), both of whom played key roles throughout the project, the session will offer practical insights into the realities of planning and delivering major transport infrastructure. Through their perspectives, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how evidence-based decision-making, transport modelling and analysis can support complex projects, inform investment decisions and help turn long-term strategic ambitions into reality.
The discussion will reflect on the challenges encountered, the insights gained and the lessons learned throughout the CRL journey. It will also consider the broader implications for transport planning and infrastructure delivery, offering valuable takeaways for professionals involved in shaping, evaluating and delivering future transport projects.
The presentation will conclude with a Q&A session, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, explore key themes in greater depth and share perspectives with fellow transport professionals.
The event will be hosted in person in Auckland, with viewing parties in Wellington and Christchurch, bringing together professionals from across the transport sector for an evening of knowledge-sharing, discussion and networking.
Networking from 5pm with presentation starting at 5.30pm sharp
