Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Māngere Pump Station, the powerhouse that keeps the Central Interceptor flowing.
We'll tour the site and biofilters, which manage odour from millions of m3 of daily wastewater flows. Then head inside to see the electrical and controls and fire suppression systems that control and protect the station. Finally, take the elevator to the base of the 40-metre-deep drywell and its six large pumps, which move flows from the tunnel wet well to the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The tour will include light refreshments, and the registration fee will go toward one of the charities working to revegetate and improve the local ecosystem.
PPE Required: Hard hats, high-vis and safety boots.
Go beneath the surface of the Central Interceptor and stand at the heart of the Māngere Pump Station, where six giant 670kW pumps in a 40-metre-deep drywell send the majority of Auckland's wastewater to Māngere treatment plant next door.
