This presentation explores the practical use of AI as a productivity tool in engineering, drawing on real-world experience from an electricity utility. Attendees will learn how AI can support tasks such as analysis, coding, reporting, and asset management, while gaining insights into the risks, governance requirements, and professional responsibilities that must be managed to ensure safe and effective adoption.

Presenter Bio:
Dan Martin is chartered professional engineer with over twenty years of experience. He is currently a senior engineer at Essential Energy, which is a state-owned electricity infrastructure company in Australia. As part of the connections planning team his responsibility is to enable the energy future by evaluating the capability of substation assets for use with solar farms, battery storage, and large industry connections. He is a chartered member of Engineering New Zealand, a senior IEEE member and a registered professional engineer of Queensland. He has a Masters in Engineering Project Management from the University of Auckland and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Manchester.
