Continuing the celebration of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori through Mahuru Māori, this event will begin indoors with a brief presentation on the engineering of traditional Māori pā, including site selection, earthworks, palisades, defensive design, and construction techniques.
The tour will then visit the historic sites of Kirikiriroa Pā, Miropiko Pā, and Opoia Pā around Hamilton to gain a deeper understanding of the strategic planning, resource use, and ingenuity involved in their construction. Led by Ngāti Wairere Rangatira Wiremu Puke, participants will have the opportunity to explore these sites through a cultural and engineering perspective of Te Ao Māori.
