This presentation introduces SpeedCore, a concrete-filled composite plate shear wall system that simplifies efficienty in erection, improves lateral performance, and reduces construction duration. Drawing on projects including Rainier Square in Seattle and 200 Park in San Jose, Ron Klemencic will discuss the system’s structural concept, supporting research, and observed project outcomes.

Drawing on projects including Rainier Square in Seattle and 200 Park in San Jose, Ron Klemencic will discuss the system’s structural concept, supporting research, and observed project outcomes. Early applications demonstrated substantial schedule acceleration, with Rainier Square completed 10 months ahead of its original schedule and 200 Park achieving approximately $10 million in cost savings along with a three-month schedule reduction.

The session will also address lessons learned from implementation and the implications of SpeedCore for high-rise design and construction practice.

Presenter Bio:
Ron Klemencic is Chairman and CEO of Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA), a Seattle-based structural and civil engineering firm. He has led the development of innovations including performance-based seismic design, SpeedCore, performance-based wind design, and structural fire design.
