Professional engineers often fulfil the role of “the engineer to the contract” under a construction contract. As such, your role may include supervising the work, certifying payment, deciding extension of time claims, variations, and related matters. This webinar considers some key provisions in standard construction contracts, and discusses the role served by the engineer in applying these clauses.

Learning outcomes:

Participants will gain:

  • an understanding of who the engineer is, and the role they serve
  • insight into whether the engineer is intended to be an impartial decision maker, the representative of their client, or both
  • an understanding of extension of time clauses, and the role of the engineer in determining these.
  • an understanding of variations, and the engineer’s role in determining these
  • insight into what happens when the engineer’s decision is disputed.

Intended audience:

This webinar is a must for engineers working with construction and engineering contracts.
