NZGS is excited to provide a hands-on classroom-based soil and rock description one day training course.

The course is based on the NZGS’s Field description of soil and rock guidelines (2005) and will cover the fundamentals of soil behaviour description, fine grained and coarse grained soils, intact rock, rock defects and rock mass. The course utilises a range of practical exercises using bulk samples and core samples.

All experience levels welcome.

Presenter Bio
Hamish is an engineering geologist at Tonkin and Taylor Ltd with 15 years consultancy experience. He has been involved in quarry, rail, landfill, land development, hazard assessment and dams related projects. Hamish has significant experience working in the Bay of Plenty, Waikato and Auckland regions, with experience abroad in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Saudi Arabia.

Hamish enjoys teaching, training others and coordinates T+T’s engineering geology technical group.

Registration fees include attendance of the course and course material (if any) and full catering for the day (morning and afternoon teas, lunch tea and coffee).

Fees will not be refunded if a participant is unable to attend, although a nominated substitute person may attend. If the course is cancelled fees will be refunded in full.
