Across Aotearoa, many groups and individuals are engaged in exciting coastal monitoring programmes and campaigns with new equipment, methodologies and goals. However, there are few opportunities to connect and share knowledge. By sharing our experiences, we can build on each other’s efforts, support one another, and together strengthen coastal monitoring across the country. This event marks the launch of Aotearoa’s Coastal Monitoring Community—a space to connect people involved in collecting, managing, or using coastal monitoring data, to share experiences with equipment and analysis methods, and to explore opportunities for collaboration to strengthen coastal monitoring nationwide.

This first gathering will bring together all those engaged in coastal monitoring to share experiences, ideas, challenges, and aspirations for this new network. This will be a casual, informal event focused on building connections and identifying the collective goals of our community. Together, we will take stock of current monitoring efforts, discuss beach and ocean monitoring approaches, and explore opportunities for collaboration. As a member of Aotearoa’s Coastal Monitoring Community, you will join a supportive network of like-minded individuals working to enhance and share knowledge on coastal monitoring. This meeting will set the foundation for shaping the direction and purpose of our community and the development of consistent, best-practice approaches to coastal monitoring.
