Michelle Deely, KiwiRail’s Sustainability Manager and Lucy Hawcroft, Senior Sustainability Advisor, will share insights on their experience supporting KiwiRail’s decarbonisation and climate resilience journey across their freight, tourism and passenger services.
They will outline some of the key targets and actions included in KiwiRail’s first Carbon Reduction and Climate Adaptation Plans and share some examples of practical initiatives KiwiRail is delivering to reduce carbon and build resilience including development of a business case for electrification of rail in the Golden Triangle, connecting Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga.

Michelle Deely, Sustainability Manager
Michelle is an experienced sustainability professional who has worked across the finance, infrastructure and not for profit sector. She leads KiwiRail’s sustainability team, including oversight of KiwiRail’s Carbon Zero Programme and wrote KiwiRail’s first Carbon Reduction Plan.
Lucy Hawcroft, Senior Sustainability Advisor
Lucy has worked on sustainability across local and central government and the private sector. She developed Auckland Council’s first climate investment package and wrote KiwiRail’s first Climate Adaptation Plan. She coordinates delivery of KiwiRail’s climate resilience workstreams.
