The Engineering New Zealand Central Otago Branch invite you to join them for a site visit at the Rydges Hotel, Queenstown. The hotel is currently undergoing a significant seismic upgrade and refurbishment. This involves installation of approximately 70 ground anchors through the rear of the existing building retaining walls and upgrading of the precast concrete wall panels and floor diaphragms. This innovative design relies on the strengthened retaining wall and ground anchors to support the building during an EQ, rather than a conventional solution – using the building structure to prop the retaining walls.
The ground anchor construction within the Eastern Block has recently been completed, with anchoring in the Central Block commencing soon. The structural work in the Eastern Block is also nearing completion so it is a good time to come to site and hear from the Geotechnical Engineers (Initia) and the Structural Engineers (Structure Design) in the thick of construction!
Following the site visit, we'll head into town for some drinks and nibbles.
PPE Required: High-vis jacket, steel cap boots and hard hat.
