Join us for the first IChemE networking event in Dunedin in several years! This is a unique opportunity to tour the Tahuna Wastewater Treatment Plant, home to New Zealand's only municipal sludge incinerator, and connect with IChemE members and other local engineering professionals.

About the Tour

The Tahuna Wastewater Treatment Plant serves approximately 100,000 people, handling an average daily flow of around 30,000 m3/d. The treatment process involves a High Rate Activated Sludge (HRAS) system, followed by (partially) nitrifying Biological Trickling Filters and Ultraviolet Disinfection. The plant produces about 20 tonnes per day of sludge (at 30% dry solids), most of which is incinerated on-site. This tour will provide insights into the plant's operations, current challenges, and ongoing improvement projects.

The tour will be led by John McAndrew, a Chartered Chemical Engineer and Fellow of IChemE. John brings over 20 years of experience in wastewater process engineering across the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. He is currently the Three Waters Group Manager at Dunedin City Council.

PPE Required: For your safety, please come prepared with closed-toed shoes, long trousers, and long-sleeved tops. High-vis jackets, safety glasses, hard hats, and gas monitors are required and will be provided on-site.

This event is kindly sponsored by IChemE and the Dunedin City Council
