The Whangarei District Council will present on these two projects funded by the Waka Kotahi Transport Choices Programme.

Kamo Priority Lane:

Kamo Road currently carries over 3,000 vehicles during the morning peak. This creates traffic congestion and increased trip times.

Council has received $3.7 million from Waka Kotahi through the Transport Choices programme to create an extra southbound lane in the morning peak on Kamo Road and Bank Street. This should reduce congestion and improve travel times.

The aim is to encourage people to use the special vehicle lane, it is reserved for vehicles that carry more than one person, or are designed for only one person. These vehicles include:

  • buses
  • vehicles / cars carrying two or more people
  • emergency vehicles
  • taxis or other passenger service vehicles
  • motorcycles, bicycles and mopeds

Bus hub project:

The existing Rose Street bus hub facilities are rundown and not fit for purpose. The current pedestrian connection into the city centre (through the Vine Street carpark) is unsafe and not legible.
This project is to demolish the existing bus hub buildings and replace them with new public toilets, staff facilities, a ticketing office and covered seating area.
A new pedestrian link between Rose and Vine streets will provide a safer connection into the city centre. The new bus hub facilities will improve user experience and encourage new users onto public transport.

Networking and light refreshments at 5PM, Presentation begins at 5.30PM.
Join us for dinner at own cost following presentations!
