The proposed Earthquake-Prone Building (EPB) reforms are currently progressing through Parliament. They propose a shift toward a targeted, risk-based approach. The New Building Standard (NBS) metric will no longer be used for regulatory purposes. Instead, regulations will focus on high-risk features like unreinforced masonry and heavy buildings of three or more storeys in medium- and high-risk seismic zones.
For Dunedin this is complicated by Coastal Otago shifting to a medium zone. Join the Dunedin group to discuss what consultants are doing in the interim. Peter Brookland from the Dunedin City Council will also join the discussion to talk about their approach.
Join us at 12:15 for refreshments with the discussion beginning at 12:30 for approx. an hour.
With the pending Earthquake-Prone Building (EPB) changes a period of uncertainty still hangs over the Otago market as engineers, owners and the council consider how to deal with the upcoming EPB changes. Join us for a discussion on how people are approaching this in the interim.
