We invite engineers, researchers, practitioners, and health & safety leaders to submit an expression of interest to present at the symposium.

The symposium highlights the essential role of engineering in creating healthier and safer environments, systems, and processes for all.

This event showcases how engineering can lead the way in solving pressing safety challenges and inspire new thinking across sectors.

Themes of Interest

We welcome submissions on a range of topics, including:

  • Health hazards in engineering, welcoming perspectives from outside engineering.
  • Health and safety by design theory and practice.
  • Innovative engineering solutions that prioritize safety in design and execution
  • Research findings that contribute to better health and safety outcomes
  • Industry case studies demonstrating successful health or safety-focused engineering. Presentations may include case studies, data insights, or design walkthroughs 
  • New methods for integrating health and safety into engineering workflows and systems

 

Presentations may address applications in infrastructure, construction, healthcare, manufacturing, digital technologies, transport, and more.

Presentation Formats

  1. Keynote presentation of 30 min
  2. Verbal presentation of 10 min.
  3. Workshop presentation of 30 min.
  4. Poster presentation (during morning tea and lunch)

All selected presenters will receive free registration to attend the symposium.

Selected keynote speakers will be offered free domestic travel for one person.

Call for Keynote presentations and workshops - Deadline: 5:00pm, Friday 17 July

Submit the following

  • Abstract (max 250 words): Summary of your proposed presentation and its relevance to the symposium
  • Presenter Bio (max 200 words): Brief overview of your background, role, and relevant experience

 

Submissions will be reviewed for relevance, innovation, clarity, and potential impact.

Notification of acceptance: Friday 14 August

Call for presentations and posters - Deadline: 5:00pm, Friday 28 August

Submit the following: Abstract (max 250 words): Summary of your proposed presentation and its relevance to the symposium.

For posters, the author is expected to bring a printed poster or mail to the Engineering New Zealand offices (A1 size).

Notification of acceptance: Friday 11 September
