Join the Engineering New Zealand South Canterbury Branch for an insightful technical presentation exploring the upgrade of a complex intersection in east Rolleston.

In response to evolving land use in the area, an existing roundabout was replaced with traffic signals at a skewed cross-intersection. While the geometry of the site posed inherent challenges, these were further amplified as the design progressed into a raised signalised intersection – a solution aimed at improving safety outcomes for all road users.

This presentation will walk attendees through the project journey, highlighting key challenges and decisions from both a traffic signals design and civil engineering perspective. The session will provide valuable insights into how practical constraints, safety objectives, and operational efficiency are balanced in real-world infrastructure projects.

What attendees can expect:

  • A clear overview of the design evolution from roundabout to signalised intersection
  • Discussion on the complexities of working with skewed geometry
  • Insights into raised intersection design and its role in improving safety
  • Practical lessons from integrating civil and traffic engineering considerations
  • Real-world challenges, decision-making processes, and project outcomes

This is a presentation-style event, offering an excellent opportunity for engineers and industry professionals to gain practical knowledge and engage with experienced practitioners. A light lunch will be provided at the venue.
