Many of Engineering New Zealand’s past publications have been digitised and are free for members to download.
Access New Zealand Engineering, Engineering Insight and more. Publications are key word searchable making it easy to browse by topic. The database is accessible via the member area of the Engineering New Zealand website.
How to login
- Log in to the Engineering New Zealand's member portal
- Once logged in to the member portal, go to ‘Menu’ (top left-hand corner) and select ‘Resources’
- Click on ‘interesting reading’ – then ‘Membership magazine’
- On the Membership magazine page, scroll to the bottom to where it says ‘Former publications’.
- Read the instructions for accessing the RMIT database. If you don’t already have a login, you’ll need to create one.
Troubleshooting
Sometimes the database will not log you in properly and articles from Engineering New Zealand publications will still be behind a paywall. If this happens, log out and log back in again. This usually resolves the issue.
What’s available
Most of Engineering New Zealand’s past publications are available including New Zealand Engineering (1946 – 2000) and Engineering Insight (2011 – 2017).
The holdings are mostly complete, but in some cases, not all issues of a title are available. See below for the full list of publications and holdings.

General keyword search
This looks for your search terms across all fields including title, author and subject.
Advanced search
Search by keyword, author, article title, journal title, subject and more.
Limit / filter your results
Down the lefthand panel next to your search results you’ll see options to limit or filter your results, including by publication date, resource type, publisher, source and subject.
To return results from Engineering New Zealand publications only, under ‘Publisher’ select ‘Engineers New Zealand’.
Browsing journal issues
It is possible to browse journal titles by issue, but to get there requires a slight workaround.
- Under ‘Advanced Search’ enter the name of the journal you are interested in and search by ‘Journal or Source Title.’
- Your results will show a list of individual articles from that publication. Click on the title of the journal (rather than the title of an individual article) to be directed to a page where you can browse the issues of that journal title.
