What does it take to deliver one of New Zealand’s most significant new civic buildings, on time and on budget, in a challenging construction market?

Join us for an evening exploring the engineering behind OneNZ Stadium in Ōtautahi Christchurch. This landmark project brings together complex structural, building services, fire, sustainability, traffic and construction phase challenges in a state-of-the-art, multi-use arena designed for the future of the city.

You will hear directly from engineers who worked on the two-stage design-and-build project, including Mott MacDonald’s Anthony Calderone, Building Services and Sustainability Design Lead, Terry Dawson, Construction Phase Structural Engineering Lead, Karl Jones, Façade Engineering, and Peter Taylor, Engineering Project Director alongside Holmes’ Darin Millar, Fire Engineer, and Jeanette Ward, Traffic Engineer. The session will also include time for questions about the project’s key decisions, challenges and lessons.

Nibbles and refreshments will be provided.

THE PROJECT

The OneNZ Stadium is a state-of-the-art multi-use arena and represents a major investment in Christchurch’s future and a powerful symbol of the city’s continued regeneration. It features a fully covered roof, 30,000 seats, including 25,000 permanent and 5,000 temporary, and will host sporting events and concerts with a total capacity of up to 37,000.

The $683m project has been delivered on time and on budget, an achievement few major projects have achieved in recent New Zealand market conditions . A project of this size and scale requires close collaboration and a strong best-for-project focus. Designed with flexibility, resilience and sustainability at its core, the stadium can adapt to a wide range of events while providing a high-quality experience for athletes, performers, spectators and the wider community.
