As we enter the second year of our three-year strategy, we’re taking stock of what we’ve achieved – and sharpening our focus for the year ahead.
The past year has been tough. A prolonged economic downturn has hit engineers, consultancies and contractors hard. Add to that increasingly severe weather events and global uncertainty, and it’s clear our profession is navigating real challenges.
That’s why our focus over the last 12 months has been on advocacy – standing up for engineers and the profession when it matters most. We’ve also made important strides in strengthening the Chartered Professional Engineers (CPEng) system and kickstarting improvements to our member experience.
Now, building on that momentum – and shaped by insights from our April member survey and staff workshops – we’re making targeted changes to better meet your needs.
In 2025/26, our focus areas include:
- CPEng: Launching the first class of registration, refining ongoing assessment, and reinforcing our disciplinary processes.
- Professional development: Enhancing our learning platform, rolling out a graduate training programme and launching a new leadership programme.
- Advocacy: Keeping up pressure on the infrastructure pipeline, workforce planning, building system performance, and standards funding.
- Member experience: Tailoring services for emerging professionals, migrant engineers and retirees; standardising support for member groups; boosting digital personalisation and automation; refreshing our brand; reviewing our events; and delivering a new website strategy.
- Engineering New Zealand Rules: Updating our Rules in line with recent changes to the CPEng framework and reviewing the Chartered Member class.
Everything we do is about supporting engineers and strengthening the profession for the benefit of Aotearoa. We’re focused on staying relevant, leading with purpose, deepening engagement, and delivering operational excellence.
Thank you for your continued support – we look forward to delivering even more in the year ahead.
