Earlier this year you let us know about your experiences as an Engineering New Zealand member through our annual member survey.

A good base for picking up trends was established from 893 responses, although the response rate is down on last year.

The survey included a net promotor score (NPS) question, a widely-used measure of member loyalty and satisfaction. This year, our NPS was +13, the same as last year, up from -2 in 2023.

  • 43% were promoters (scoring us 9 or 10)
  • 27% were passive (7 or 8)
  • 30% were detractors (0–6)

A result of +13 is positive, but a clear signal that there is more work to be done.

You were also asked "what can we do better?"

Encouragingly, positive comments are on the rise. There were fewer comments on the need to improve CPEng assessment and reassessment processes, reflecting the work that has been done in that area.

Continued professional development (CPD) was the most frequently mentioned area for improvement: 19% of comments asked for more discipline-specific content, better delivery formats and lower costs. We'll continue our focus on diversifying CPD offerings and explore ways to make them more affordable.

General price and value for money were mentioned frequently, with comments more than doubling since last year. This may reflect the tough economic conditions at the moment but we'll investigate ways to address this feedback.

Your feedback is important. It helps us change and improve – to better serve you. The themes and commentary received through the survey have been a key input in our priorities and planning for the next financial year.
