Come join us in-person in Wellington, or online to hear from the Department of Conservation as they discuss related national direction on changes that will impact on coastal areas.
Changes have been made to the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement (NZCPS), The National Policy Statements for Renewable Electricity Generation, and Electricity Transmission and new national direction has been developed including the National Policy Statement (NPS) for Natural Hazards, and NPS for Infrastructure, to support the Government’s growth priorities while maintaining environmental safeguards.
NZCPS Policy 6 (activities in the coastal environment) and policy 8 (aquaculture) have been amended and can be viewed here.
These changes under the existing RMA came into effect on 15 January 2026. They will inform the design and development of the new national direction that will be prepared in 2026 and 2027 under the new Natural Environment and Planning legislation when it is enacted.
