1.30 – 2.00PM – Roots St Water Treatment Plant site visit
PPE Required: High-vis jacket and steel toe capped boots.
Free for members and $10 for non-members.
THE PLANT
Located on Roots Street West in Finding, Roots St Water Treatment Plant is a smart and innovative addition to Feilding’s water infrastructure. The site integrates a deep-water bore, treatment plant and reticulation storage within a single location. This co-located approach enables a much smaller footprint compared with traditional treatment systems, reducing land requirements and improving operational efficiency.
Five years ago, Manawatū District Council began searching for a new and reliable water source to support Feilding’s long-term water needs. Roots Street West was selected due to its proximity to the town, safe distance from local fault lines, and strong alignment with future growth planning.
The site draws water from a 400-metre-deep bore, with the bore pump located at approximately 100 metres depth. Operating at 60 litres per second, the treatment plant can produce up to 5,000 cubic metres of water per day. With Feilding’s daily demand averaging between 9,000 and 12,000 cubic metres, the Roots St WTP now supplies up to one-third of the town’s drinking water.
Join us for a presentation from Manawatū District Council on the Feilding water supply strategy and the development of the district’s one of the newest water treatment plants, followed by a site visit!
