The Dunedin Branch and Heritage Chapter invite you for a rare, behind-the-scenes tour of the Waipori hydroelectric power scheme to explore all four power stations - Waipori 1A, 2A, 3 and 4. Gain valuable insight into how this vital renewable asset supports local and national energy systems while connecting with fellow members during a full-day guided visit.
This full day guided visit will provide an overview of all four stations and an insight into how hydro generation supports our local and national power system. Please bring your own food and drink for the day, as well as insect repellent.
PROGRAMME
8.30AM – Depart Dunedin for Waipori.
10.00AM – Assemble at Mahinerangi Dam (No 1A Powerhouse)
10.00AM – Introduction to scheme (H&S) by Contact energy.
10.15AM – Commence tour of scheme, visit No1a powerhouse and Mahinerangi Dam
11.00AM to 3PM – Travel down Waipori Gorge. Visit No 2A Station, No3 powerhouse, No 4 powerhouse and associated structures.
3.00PM – Depart for Dunedin from No4 powerhouse.
We are looking to organise return transport from Dunedin as part of this visit, with details on pickup and drop-off location to be confirmed.
PPE Required: Hard hat, hi-vis, work boots and wet weather gear.
Free for members and $15 for non-members.
