Join fellow Engineering New Zealand members for an after-work clean-up of the Heathcote Estuary this March. This is a practical, hands-on opportunity to give back to a local environment while spending time with other engineers outside the usual work setting.
The clean-up will run for around 1 to 1½ hours, working in pairs across a defined section of the estuary to collect rubbish and debris.
- All equipment required for the activity will be provided, along with access to wash-up facilities afterwards.
- Snacks and hot and cold refreshments will be available back at the Bryn Martin offices once the clean-up is complete.
- Meet at 5.15PM at 1a/11 Tussock Lane (outside Bryn Martin offices).
- Bring gumboots, gloves and clothing you are ok to get dirty in. Bring something windproof and waterproof.
OBJECTIVE
- The notion is to collect anything that should not be out there, within the area bounded by the ochre line on the attached arial photograph. Essentially that is paper, plastic, metal or the like.
- Bring the sacks back and put them in the trailer which will be there.
- The estuary is beautiful place, so if the evening is good, it should be a good experience. For anyone keen on photography, both the birds and the views across the area are gorgeous, so bring a camera.
- When we have numbers, I will divide the target area into “patches” to be assigned to each group. It is intended that we operate in pairs.
CANCELLATION
This activity is weather dependent. If rain is forecast it will delayed to the next day (26th March), and if that it also rain, it will be cancelled. Please watch your e-mail as it may not be possible to be sure of the weather until the morning of the intended day.
Please contact Brian at b.anderson@brynmartin.co.nz if you have any questions.
Grab your gumboots and help give the Heathcote Estuary a well-earned clean-up this March. Join us for a short, hands-on session tidying a beautiful stretch of the estuary, followed by refreshments. Good for the environment, good for the soul, and a solid way to end the day.
