The module examines the availability, market trends, energy density and application suitability of both non-renewable and renewable energy sources. Additionally, it covers different energy storage technologies, their applications and benefits. Participants will also analyse the importance of energy transition, energy efficiency, and climate change mitigation, and evaluate the role of policies and regulations in supporting these efforts.

By the end of the module, you should be able to:
- Understand the different types of energy and their significance across various sectors.
- Analyse the structure and functioning of the electricity market.
- Examine the availability, market trends, energy density, and application suitability of non-renewable fuels.
- Explore the availability, market trends, energy density, and application suitability of renewable fuels.
- Understand different energy storage technologies, their applications, and benefits.
- Analyse the importance of energy transition, energy efficiency, and climate change mitigation and evaluate the role of policies and regulations in supporting these efforts.
Position and pathway
This module includes an optional online badge exam (micro-credential). Successful completion of the assessment contributes towards CEP’s Certified Professional in Energy qualification.
Time commitment
The module comprises six (6) lessons split into 10 videos and approximately four and a half (4.5) hours of total video content. Learners will also complete three (3) progression quizzes, each taking around five (5) minutes, and one (1) completion quiz. The progression quizzes serve as gatekeeper steps, requiring successful completion before participants can advance to the next lesson.
Digital certificate
A digital certificate is issued upon achieving a minimum pass mark of 75%, recognising successful completion and understanding of the module. Please note that this certificate is separate from the associated professional certification.
