Join us for an insightful evening featuring two compelling talks from distinguished professionals in the field of engineering. Whether you're a seasoned geotechnical engineer or an aspiring graduate, these presentations promise to broaden your perspective and deepen your understanding of critical topics in Whanganui.

PhD Talk: Sailesh Shrestha - Geotechnical Engineer from WSP

Topic: Bending Failure of Deep Soil Mixing Columns under Embankment Load

Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) columns have been used extensively for improving soft clayey deposit for building and embankment foundations. A new design method for evaluating the bending failure of column for the group DSM columns improved ground under embankment load has been developed in 2016 considering main factors affecting the bending moment in the DSM column. The presentation will highlight the importance of study of bending failure of columns and discus the Finite element software approach to develop the design method.

Graduate Talk: Nikki Ni – Three Waters Project Engineer from Whanganui District Council

Topic: A Journey from Theoretical to Practical Engineering World

Nikki, a previous Graduate Engineer specializing in Three Waters, brings her five years of Graduate experience to the table. In her upcoming presentation, she will delve into a range of crucial topics, including the variances between the educational systems of New Zealand and China, tips on resume and interview techniques, the pivotal shift from theoretical knowledge to real-world application, indispensable advice tailored for graduates, overcoming challenges encountered in the workplace as a recent graduate, and strategies for continuous career development and personal growth.

A light dinner and drinks will be provided.
