Keryn Kliskey

FEngNZ, MICE, CPEng, CEng, ME, BE(Hons)

Keryn has been actively involved in the engineering profession in Aotearoa for more than 20 years including as a CPEng Practice Assessor and Past President of ACE New Zealand. Keryn is currently a Principal Project Director with WSP New Zealand and has leadership roles on a range of transformational transportation projects throughout the country, drawing experience from successful delivery of projects in New Zealand, the UK and Hong Kong. As a Chartered Professional Engineer and Fellow of Engineering New Zealand, Keryn is committed to the professional development and mentoring of engineers and other infrastructure professionals. “The CPEng Board has a key role to provide governance and direction to build public and industry confidence in professional engineers as we transition to a new occupational regulation for engineers and provide for future generations,” says Keryn.

Deputy Chair

Debbie Scott

FEngNZ, CPEng, IntPE(NZ), FSFPE

Debbie is the co-owner and Principal Fire Engineer of OnFire Consulting and has been working for over 20 years as a consulting fire engineer. Debbie has made a significant contribution to the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and Engineering New Zealand, being on the SFPE New Zealand Chapter as an executive committee member from 2000 to 2021 (including three years as President). Debbie is currently on the SFPE Magazine Editorial Committee and was elected as a Life Member of the SFPE New Zealand Chapter in 2020. She also serves as a Governing Board member for the Society of Fire Protection Engineers Foundation, a global non-profit organization that supports research and education to improve our understanding of fire and its interaction with the natural and build environment. Debbie was a member of Engineering New Zealand’s Governing Board between 2005 and 2009. She has served on numerous Engineering New Zealand committees and is a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand and a Fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineering International in 2021. Debbie is passionate about the engineering profession and ensuring engineers uphold ethical and professional standards.

Geoffrey Farquhar

FEngNZ CPEng RecEng FICE CEng

Geoffrey is a Principal of GHD and a Technical Director (Dams & Geotechnical) based in Auckland. He has 45years of engineering experience in New Zealand and overseas and provides technical leadership in geotechnical and dam engineering for infrastructure, buildings, and dam projects. Geoffrey is involved in advisory and review roles, and he is a member of Engineering New Zealand’s Natural Disaster Recovery Panel which facilitates the resolution of residential insurance claims for the New Zealand Claims Resolution Service. Geoffrey has previously served on the Competency Assessment Board and the Engineering New Zealand’s governing board. He is past chair of the New Zealand Geotechnical Society. Geoffrey is committedto providing independent technical and professional advice in a pragmatic manner.

Avik Halder

FEngNZ, C.Eng, MICE, MSc., B.Eng (Hons.)

Avik is Stantec’s Technical Development Leader for New Zealand’s Water Business Centre and responsible for ensuring technical excellence and showcasing technical capability. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand. Avik has been involved with Engineering New Zealand for several years, currently as a Standards and Accreditation Board member, Fellowship Panel member and Wonder Project Ambassador. Previously, he was involved with the Nelson Marlborough Branch Committee for six years, including three years serving as Branch Chair. Avik is passionate about promoting the engineering industry and is committed to ensuring that our profession is held in high regard both within New Zealand and overseas. He believes we need to make sure our local communities have the confidence and trust in the work engineers do and that, as a profession, we maintain our standards and ethics at all times.

Matt Harris

FEngNZ CMEngNZ CPEng IntPE(NZ)

Matt is a chartered professional civil and structural engineer with over 25 years of international experience and is a Principal of Beca NZ Ltd, managing their Southern Transport and Infrastructure section, based in Christchurch. In recent years Matt has sat on the Engineering New Zealand Board on two occasions and is currently on the Competency Assessment Board (CAB) which moderates CPEng application approvals. Matt has continually supported the profession for more than 20 years, originally as a Future-in-Tech ambassador promoting STEM subjects in schools and later as a CPEng Practice Area Assessor and Staff Assessor. He believes the strength of a profession is greatest when members actively participate in its initiatives.

Paul Campbell

FEngNZ CPEng (NZ)

Paul is a practicing structural engineer and Fellow of Engineering New Zealand. He is currently the National Technical Director for Building Structures at WSP. Paul has represented the engineering profession on several industry bodies and has been awarded Engineering New Zealand’s MacLean Citation for exceptional and distinguished service to the engineering profession. He is also a past president of the Structural Engineering Society of New Zealand. Paul is passionate about quality and building on the legacy of professional engineering in New Zealand.

Mel Orange

BA, LLB

Mel is a barrister and business consultant from Christchurch, specialising in regulatory regimes. Mel is currently the Chair of the Electricity Rulings Panel, Presiding Member (Chair) of the Electrical Workers Registration Board and the Deputy Chair of the Building Practitioners Board. Mel has been involved in the construction and utility sectors for about 30 years.

Stewart Gutsell

CMEngNZ, CPEng, FEngNZ

Stewart is trained as a mechanical engineer and has been involved in engineering for 40 years and self-employed for the last 25, he has recently sold his business to a Christchurch based company, and now continues as their employee. Stewart’s work is focused on mechanical design, the inspection and compliance of lifting and moving equipment, and the implementation of safety improvements and procedures within the industry. His client base extends from Auckland to Invercargill. Stewart is a Practice Area Assessor and a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand.
