To secure the future of air transport in our District, Whangārei District Council has been investigating potential sites to replace Whangārei’s Airport in Onerahi.
With changes in future aircraft types and to ensure ongoing compliance with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) rules, the way that the Whangārei Airport operates means that while it is currently functional, in the long-term it may not be suitable.
As a consequence, WDC commissioned a series of reports to identify a long list and short list of possible replacement airport sites. The Council has now identified three preferred sites and together with the existing Onerahi site have commenced community consultation.
You are invited to come along to this meeting to hear Simon Weston and Fraser Campbell discuss the study, outline the site selection criteria and provide details on the three preferred sites and the existing Onerahi site. They would like to also hear your views on the study and the four options currently being consulted on.
