All members are encouraged to attend the AGM to hear what the branch has accomplished over the past year and what our plans are for the year ahead.
Technical talk: Waterview Tunnels Project
Following the AGM will be a technical talk on the Waterview Tunnel project presented by Leah Jacobs, winner of the British Tunnelling Society's Harding Prize for 2018.
The Waterview Tunnel is a key piece of the Western Ring Route which is a 48km motorway route through the west of Auckland, connecting Manukau, the city, West Auckland and the North Shore. The 2.4km Waterview Tunnel between Pt Chevalier and Mt Roskill opened in July 2017, and cost $1.4 billion to build. It was the largest road project ever completed in the New Zealand. In this context, Leah will explore how large projects can change the health and safety culture of an entire industry and how lessons can be learnt here in the UK.
All are welcome to attend the AGM, although only current members of Engineering New Zealand may participate in the proceedings. Non-members are welcome to attend the meeting as observers or to come along and join us later for the technical talk.
There will be time for everyone to socialise and network following the talk with some nibbles and beverages.
