Bill Harvey, who is a Bridge Engineer from the UK, is coming to Whangarei to give a presentation on the lessons learned from his work on arch and suspension bridges.
Bill has been studying masonry bridges since 1981. In 1986 he produced a programme to quickly perform the latest idea in analysis for single span bridges. Under pressure to do something similar for multi-spans, he thought about how they worked, built a few models and built a programme which has been in use for nearly 30 years. Trouble is, he was wrong.
This talk is a story of how Bill realised he was wrong and how we might move forward from a bad place. The talk will also venture into some of the tools his company develops and uses, systems for measuring bridge behaviour and 3D photographic modelling techniques.
Join us at 5.30pm for socialising, drinks and nibbles. Presentation to start at 6.15pm. After the presentation we will be heading to dinner, which will be at own expense. Please let us know on the registration page if you will be attending the dinner also.
