Part of our Christchurch 10 years on event series. Join Engineering New Zealand Canterbury Branch for a guided walk of the central city, highlighting buildings and structures of engineering significance, including heritage buildings, post-quake restorations and new builds.

Engineering experts will be stationed at key sites to provide insights into features of buildings they have been involved with.

Sites visited will include heritage and pre-quake buildings including Canterbury Museum, Arts Centre, Bridge of Remembrance, Christ Church Cathedral, Isaac Theatre Royal, New Regent St and Town Hall, and new builds of engineering significance including Turanga (Central Library) and Te Pae (Convention Centre), and public art and memorials.

What to bring: Sunhat and sunscreen, suitable clothing if weather turns cold or wet.

Assemble outside Canterbury Museum on Rolleston Avenue, around the Rolleston statue opposite Worcester Street for 10am. Guides will be wearing hi-vis vests.

After the initial briefing the tour will take approximately 90 minutes, departing from 10.10am to 10.30am and concluding between 11.40am and midday.  Tour will finish in Cathedral Square.

Non-members and children are welcome but please note we will be at each building for approx 10 minutes.

Any members willing to volunteer to help as guides or assistants (all information provided) or engineering experts on particular buildings/structures, please contact Andrew Lamb 021 533 314 or email alambnz@gmail.com.
